Nurse - Weekend Supervisor

Merrimack Valley Health Center is now hiring for a weekend supervisor

  • Recent clinical experience, education, or specialty skills specific to geriatrics is preferred
  • At least 1 year of managerial experience in Long Term Care is preferred
  • Experience in long term care required
  • Collaborates with the Director of Nursing in maintaining adequate nursing coverage to provide safe nursing care for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • Effectively utilizes existing manpower limiting use of overtime and agency personnel
  • Participates in staff recruitment (assist in the interviewing and selection of nursing personnel)
  • Assesses the work performance of nursing staff as it relates to their job description, unit standards of care and goals of the individual
  • Implements the individual performance improvement plan for staff whose performances does not meet center expectations and when necessary, recommends or initiates disciplinary action (No RN’s)
  • Conducts regular staff meetings on each shift and provides updates to DNS
  • Collaborates with other departments to provide timely effective carte consistent with individual’s needs, choices and preferences
  • Promotes a culture of safety to ensure a healthy practice and living environment
  • Participates in center’s nursing committees as requested
  • Participates in meetings to address patient care, survey and or standards of care issues
  • Participates in center meetings such as utilization management, customer at risk care planning, quality improvement
  • Identifies patient care requirements
  • Establishes a compassionate environment, by providing emotional, psychological, support to patients while holding them accountable.

Registered Nurse ( RN ) / Licensed Practical Nurse ( LPN ) Job Responsibilities:

  • Provides professional guidance and supervision to non-professional unit staff
    Ensures patient care assignments are consistent with staff competencies, scope of practice and the needs of the patients

  • Participates with the interdisciplinary team in developing, implementing and evaluating ways to achieve patient goals and minimize rehospitalizations

  • Contacts attending physician to obtain orders as indicated (admission, change in condition, etc)

  • Ensures that physician orders are followed as prescribed

  • Oversees medication management to ensure adequate supplies and that all medications are handled in accordance

  • Ensures that patients attending physician and family or responsible party are promptly notified of any significant change in the patients’ health condition

  • Creates an environment that is respectful, team oriented and responsive to the concerns of staff, patients and families

  • Ensures communication between licensed nursing staff and C.N.A.’s during and between shifts

  • Participates in shift to shift communication between incoming and outgoing nursing staff

  • Serves as a role model in the delivery of direct patient care using the nursing process

  • Provides patient care when required

  • Ensures discharge planning process is in place and provides consultation as needed

  • Ensures complete and prompt reporting of incidents, accidents and adverse events to Executive Director and Director of Nursing

  • Investigates patient/family complaints and takes appropriate actions to bring to resolution

 

Long Term Care Experience required

Requirements : Must be Licensed in MA

Required license or certification

RN (Registered Nurse) or LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse)
