JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of tasks in relation to the cooking preparation and serving of residents and employees.

 
PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS

Adequate performance of duties assigned is expected. This includes, but is not limited to:

safe and sanitary handling of food, dishes and equipment.
Handling of tableware and flatware in a manner that will assure maximum cleanliness.
Adherence  policies and procedures.
Execute tasks as assigned by supervisor and/or cook in a timely and efficient manner, and in the order of sequence instructed.

 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Stand, walk, bends and carry when performing assigned duties.

 
SPECIAL DEMANDS

Willing to perform repetitive tasks.  Exercises some initiative in maintaining the kitchen in clean and orderly condition.  Ability to work with others and to perform a variety of assigned tasks under supervision.  Skill in, and ability to learn, operation of equipment.

 
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Training: Ability to follow oral/written  directions

Experience:  Some kitchen experience desirable.  On the job training given.

Job Knowledge: Must be able to read diet cards.  Should have some kind of mechanical ability to be capable of operating dish washing machine.

 
EMPLOYMENT VARIABLES

Other duties as assigned by supervisor or cook including, but not limited to picnic set up, assistance with special occasions and/or special or abnormal situations, special cleaning tasks, etc.

 
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Works in clean, well lit and ventilated kitchen.  Must be able to withstand heat while working around stove, steam table or dish room equipment.

 
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervised by: The manager, the food service supervisor or a cook. For clarification or questions regarding this job description or any duty assigned, please see supervisor.

Assist cook with food preparation as instructed including, but not limited to assistance with serving line preparation, serving portions to be put on food trucks, serving of employees, preparing toast for breakfast meal, individual bagging of bread, dessert preparation, preparation of special (not on menu) food items indicated on resident diet cards, snack preparation, preparation of daily substitute menu, including serving and transporting to unit if requested and food preparation for dialysis residents.

Dish, tray and flatware washing, including wrapping of cleaned silverware and neat return of washed items to appropriate place.
Cleaning of food trucks after use, cleaning of employee dining room tables and chairs, and other cleaning tasks as per cleaning schedule and/or as instructed by supervisor, including but not limited to deliming of dishwasher and cleaning of a spill.
Assist with meal pass in day rooms as instructed.

Must be able to work weekends.
